Even though you probably won’t make buckets of gold by mining Iron Ore or Mithril Ore and selling it, this route has to be here, because Mithril is quite an important mineral in some of the WoW crafts. So, whether you will farm it for yourself to boost your Engineering or Blacksmithing, or just to sell it in AH, here’s an excellent route for it in Badlands.
Requirements:
- Minimum level 50;
- Mining: minimum 175 skill;
- Mining Pick;
- At least epic ground mount.
Where to go:
If you play Horde, teleport to Undercity or pass through the portal in Orgrimmar to Vashj’ir, then fly to New Kargath (17,40) in Badlands.
If you play Alliance, teleport to Ironforge and fly to Dragon’s Mouth (22,58) in Badlands.
What to do:
Start gathering all the Mithril Ore, Gold Ore and Truesilver Ore that you can find, going clockwise, starting with New Kargath (17,40) or Dragon’s Mouth (22,58). Follow only the rocky edges of the zone. The middle areas of Badlands aren’t that rich in ore.
The ogre cave, Dustbelch Grotto (12,70) is a must-visit site on every lap. You’ll always find at least 3-4 mineral nodes inside.
If you don’t have a flying mount, when you reach Camp Kosh (60,22) move directly South and skip Lethlor Ravine. Covering a smaller area if you only have ground mount is better. The minerals have a quick spawn rate anyway.
Loot:
After 30 minutes of gathering minerals in Badland, I got the following valuables:
Mithril Ore x 151 = 40g/stack = 302g
Gold Ore x 10 = 30g/stack = 15g
Truesilver Ore x 9 = 30g/stack = 13g
Aquamarine x 2 = 10g/each = 20g
Star Ruby x 1 = 5g
Black Vitriol x 1 = 3g
Citrine x 2 = 7g/each = 14g
Solid Stone x 199 = 3g/stack = 29g
TOTAL: 401g after 30 minutes of mining.
Tips:
If you have at least 175 Jewelcrafting skill you can prospect the Mithril Ore. By prospecting Mithril Ore you will obtain: Aquamarines, Star Rubies, Citrines, Azerothian Diamonds, Huge Emeralds, Blue Sapphires and Large Opals. So, before selling the ore, check the prices for these gems. By prospecting the Mithril and selling the gems you may get better profits.
Also if you have Jewelcrafting, you can use the Aquamarines to craft Aquamarine Signets. An Aquamarine Signet of the Tiger for example, can be sold for over 200g.
Also, check the prices for bars before selling the ore. Sometimes a stack of Mithril, Gold or Truesilver bars is higher than a stack of ore. So, in that case, smelt all your ore and sell it as bars. You’ll find that many times a stack of Mithril Bars is actually 2 times the price of a stack of Mithril Ore. And a Mithril Bar requires a Mithril Ore to craft, therefore you’ll get double profits by selling bars.
If you have Engineering, you can turn the Solid Stones into Solid Blasting Powder. This reagent isn’t commonly found at the Auction House and you can actually sell your Solid Stones for higher prices this way.
