The Emerald Dream isn’t exactly the best place for Herbalism if you also want to score a lot of Rousing elements as well. However, uncommon herbs here do seem to be available in somewhat of a higher amount than in other zones of the Dragon Isles.
So, here’s a route for Herbalism in the Emerald Dream, focusing especially on Writhebark and Saxifrage.
- Dragon Isles Herbalism
- Mastering the Elements trait unlocked
- GatherMate2 addon (optional)
Where to go:
Teleport to Valdrakken in Thaldraszus and use the portal at (62, 57) to teleport to the Central Encampment at Amirdrassil (48, 60) in the Emerald Dream. From there, go northwest to The Smoldering Copse. This should be your starting point for your mining session.
What to do:
Follow the route on the map above and gather all the herbs that you can find. I found most of the Saxifrage in the western area of the zone while Writhebark seems to be more evenly widespread. However, Writhebark seems to grow mostly on the floating trees in this area, so if you see a node on the minimap, and it’s nowhere to be found on the ground, look up in the air for a floating tree.
Bubble Poppy is usually found near water and compared to the other uncommon herbs, it’s found considerably less here in the Emerald Dream. Ohn’ahran Plains is a much better area for gathering this herb.
Occasionally, you will find herbs with the “Overgrown” buff. When interacted with, these herbs will spawn a treant that runs around. The treant can also be gathered like regular herbs and the gathering action can be performed on it several times until it despawns. It’s important to note that you can move while performing the gathering action on the moving treant, so this way, you should be able to gather herbs at least 2-3 times from it.
Unfortunately, there area only holds herbs with the “Overgrown” and “Infurious” buffs (no Frigid, Windswept, or Titan-Touched – or at least, I haven’t found any herbs with these buffs). So, the Overload Elemental Herb ability isn’t of much use here. If an Overgrown herb is Overloaded with this herbalism ability, it will grant a bunch of other herbs and a small amount (2-3 Rousing elements). However, even with Herbalism traits capped and top Herbalism gear, the herbs granted by the Overload Elemental Herb from the Overgrown herbs, are almost always Tier 1 (at least for now). Thus, especially if you’re gathering an Overgrown Writhebark or Overgrown Saxifrage, you’re better off not using the Overload buff and just gather the treant that spawns several times. You have higher chances of getting multiple T3 uncommon herbs this way.
After one hour of gathering herbs by following this route, I’ve got the following valuables:
- Hochenblume x 746
- Bubble Poppy x 31
- Writhebark x 115
- Saxifrage x 130
- Rousing Ire x 49
- Lava Beetle x 47
For this session, my herbalist had blue gear and all the Herbalism traits capped.
To get at least three herb gathering interactions with the Overgrown elemental spawning from the Overgrown herbs, it’s best to clear the trash mobs around it and make sure you are mounted before you start gathering it. The elemental runs pretty fast and cannot be stunned or crowd-controlled (at least not for now).
Aerated Phial of Deftness does not help with the gathering speed of the Overgrown Herbs. However, it’s a good idea to use these flasks for general herb gathering and mining in the area. This route is packed with rather numerous and tough mobs. Being able to collect a resource node quickly and then fly away before aggro dismounts you, is a plus.
The Emerald Dream is the last zone required for the Dragon Isles Pathfinder achievement. Completing this achievement gives you the possibility to use a regular flying mount in the Dragon Isles as well as the Flight Form, if you’re a druid. So, completing the achievement before starting your gathering sessions here can be quite helpful. In case you run out of Vigor on your dragon, you can quickly swap onto the regular flying mount to make it easily and quickly to any nearby herb nodes, avoiding aggro and even beating other players to them.
