Although World of Warcraft has been around for almost 20 years, it still stands pretty high among other, newer MMOs. Also, as opposed to other popular MMOs at the moment, like Elder Scrolls Online, Guild Wars 2, or Star Wars: The Old Republic, WoW requires the use of way more abilities and cooldowns. In fact, once you reach the end game with any character, you will have at least 3-4 full bars of usable stuff.
Thus, in order to play the game at full potential, you definitely need a dedicated keyboard. So, here are some of the best keyboards for playing World of Warcraft in 2023.
Best Keyboards for WoW: Overview
#1. Corsair K95 Platinum XT (Best Overall)
#2. Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum (Second Best – Extra Macros)
#3. Kinesis Gaming Freestyle Edge (Best Split)
#4. Logitech G915 (Best Wireless)
#5. Redragon K556 (Best Budget)
#6. Razer Blackwidow V3 Mini (Best Mini Wireless)
The keyboards on this list should cover all budgets. They are all RGB keyboards equipped with mechanical switches. Each one comes with a driver or software that allows at least RGB lighting customization. They’re also designed to cover multiple gaming needs, not just World of Warcraft gameplay.
#1. Corsair K95 Platinum XT
Specs
- Dimensions: 465mm x 171mm x 36mm
- Switches: Mechanical, Cherry MX (available with MX Brown, MX Blue, or MX Speed Silver)
- Number of Keys: 104 standard + 6 macros
- Lighting: Per-Key RGB
- Programmable: Yes
- OS Compatibility: Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Mac OS X 10.13,
- Connectivity: Wired
To begin with, the Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT is constructed on an anodized aluminum frame, featuring a top-class look, feel, and sturdiness. It is an absolute unit of a keyboard (dimensions above), so if you’re space-tight or you simply don’t like large keyboards, you might want to reconsider your choice.
The Corsair K95 RGB Platinum XT is available with three types of Cherry MX switches – Brown, Blue, and Speed Silver. Although the switches are a personal preference for most gamers, for World of Warcraft and MMOs in general, we recommend the MX Brown switches. That’s because they require slightly more force to press and deliver superior feedback before bottoming them. They are also super-sturdy, so doesn’t matter if you smash them.
It’s important to mention here that the switches are not quick-swap. Each one is soldered to the mainboard. Thus, in case one is damaged or you simply want to replace it, you will need to partially disassemble the unit, unsolder the switches you want to replace, and re-solder the new ones.
This Corsair keyboard offers 100% anti-ghosting with full key rollover to register every keystroke quickly. So, no matter how quickly you’ll be mashing your keys, every key will be registered correctly.
One of the most important features for World of Warcraft gaming offered by the Corsair K95 is the group of six macro keys. They are perfectly placed on the left of the unit, in the optimal range for the pinky. They are perfect for burst macros, or crunch macros, kinda required by some classes.
The unit is fully programmable with Corsair’s IQ software. It offers access to the entire RGB spectrum, so combinations are basically limitless. Various patterns are already available by default, so you can choose a preset one. You can also download various custom user lighting profiles available through the Corsair IQ profile library.
The key lighting is per-key RGB which is great for MMOs. For example, you can have your WASD keys in a different color, or separate colors for the keys assigned to each WoW Q-bar.
The keyboard features double-shot PBT keycaps, which are considerably more durable than standard ABS caps, they don’t shine as much which provides a better view of the lighting. It also takes much longer for the symbols on them to fade. Plus, you’ll get a set of FPS/MOBA keycap set, as well as an S1-S6 keycap set for the macro keys.
Finally, this keyboard connects to your PC via a braided USB cable. It features dedicated media and volume controls. It also has a USB passthrough which is nice if you are running other peripherals. The package also includes a detachable, padded wrist rest.
#2. Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum
Specs
- Dimensions: 505mm x 210mm x 35.5mm
- Switches: Mechanical, Romer-G
- Number of Keys: 104 + 9
- Lighting: Per-Key RGB
- Programmable: Yes
- OS Compatibility: Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, Mac OS X
- Connectivity: Wired, USB
Although the Logitech G910 Orion Spectrum has been around for quite a while (was released in 2016), it still is one of the best keyboards for World of Warcraft, and for MMO gaming in general. One of the main reasons for that is the extra macro buttons. Although you can play WoW on a regular keyboard fairly decently, having extra buttons for your main CDs and macros makes a significant difference.
The Logitech G910 is equipped with Romer-G switches. These are similar to the Cherry MX Brown switches but have a shallower actuation depth, which makes them approx. 25% faster than the browns. They also deliver a better light dispersion with less lighting bleed. In case, you’re wondering, the switches are soldered to the mainboard; they are not quick-swap. The keycaps are ABS-made
The unit has an anti-ghosting feature so you can press multiple keys without any problem. It integrates dedicated multi-media keys and controls. It also has 4 keys for configuration profiles for easy swap in case you’re using different configs for other games than WoW.
In terms of lighting, this keyboard is per-key RGB customizable. In other words, you can color each key, as well as map the keys as you want via the Logitech Gaming Software. Plus, Logitech also offers a free app, the ARX Control app, which works with the Logitech Software to provide live data about your CPU usage, GPU memory usage, RAM usage, internal temperatures, and more.
The keyboard comes with a standard cable (not braided), featuring a thick USB connector. It does not have a passthrough USB port. It has 2-position feet at the back and an integrated (non-detachable) wrist rest. And finally, it has a docking port for your phone which can come in handy if you’re using the ARX control app.
#3. Kinesis Gaming Freestyle Edge
Specs
- Dimensions: 393mm x 260mm x 32mm
- Switches: Mechanical, Cherry MX (available with MX Brown, MX Blue, MX Red, or MX Speed Silver)
- Number of Keys: 95
- Programmable Keys: 9
- Lighting: Per-Key RGB
- Programmable: Yes, SmartSet Programming App
- OS Compatibility: Windows, Mac, Linux
- Connectivity: Wired, USB
If you like split keyboards, the Kinesis Freestyle Edge is an excellent choice for WoW gameplay and for other MMOs as well. That’s because it has the programmable keyset on the left, in the perfect range for the pinky, just perfect to have your WoW macros, CDs, and other crunch buttons there.
The Kinesis Freestyle Edge Split keyboard is fully programmable and doesn’t require the installation of any software programs. The SmartSet Programming App is installed on the keyboard and you can access it as soon as the keyboard is plugged into your PC. It offers the possibility of mapping any key, as well as selecting the desired color pattern for your keys. The colors are Per-Key RGB programmable, there are 9 customizable profiles.
Although the keyboard doesn’t have dedicated multimedia keys, it does have buttons for quick profile selection, macro recording, key remapping, and a key for quick access to the SmartSet app.
One of the big pluses for this Kinesis keyboard is that it’s available Brown, Blue, Red, or Silver Cherry MX mechanical switches. As we’ve already mentioned, for World of Warcraft and other MMOs, we recommend the Brown Cherry MX switches as they offer better feedback. The keycaps are fairly standard, ABS-made, and translucent.
The Kinesis Freestyle Edge is a cabled keyboard; the USB cable is 1.8 m (6 ft) long, while the linking cable is 508mm (20 inches) long. The cables are braided. The wrist rest pads are detachable; they integrate a plush pad for extra comfort.
Finally, the keyboard does not have a passthrough USB port. Also, the Kinesis Lift Kit is not included.
#4. Logitech G915 Lightspeed RGB
Specs
- Dimensions: 475mm x 150mm x 22mm
- Switches: Mechanical, GL (Linear, Clicky, or Tactile)
- Number of Keys: 104 + 5
- Lighting: Per-Key RGB
- Programmable: Yes, G HUB software
- OS Compatibility: Windows, Mac, Linux
- Connectivity: 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth, Micro USB
If you prefer wireless keyboards, the Logitech G915 is one of the best for WoW gameplay. One of the important features that you’ll definitely need for this MMO is the G1-G5 macro keyset placed on the left. These are fully programmable, and the keyboard also offers three buttons (M1, M2, M3) at the top for quick macro stopping. These offer the possibility to store 3 different sets of macros.
The Logitech G915 keyboard is available with three different types of GL switches – GL Clicky (White), GL Tactile (Brown), and GL Linear (Red). For World of Warcraft gameplay, we recommend the tactile ones. These offer a similar feel to the MX Browns. They have a 1.5mm actuation depth, and 2.7mm total distance travel, and deliver a heavier tactile bump, perfect for WoW, and MMO play, in general. They are soldered to the mainboard, so they’re not quick-swap. The keycaps are ABS-made, not very shiny, slim, and with a pretty neat design.
For full customization, this keyboard requires the use of the Logitech G HUB. This software not only allows RGB per-key customization, it also detects each game that you play. Thus, it gives you the possibility to save the desired configuration for each game, or for WoW, a different configuration for each character that you play.
The Logitech G915 offers dual connectivity, via USB dongle with a 2.4 GHz radio frequency, and via Bluetooth. Latency is almost inexistent if you’re using a dongle, but with the Bluetooth connection, you may detect a few milliseconds of delay at times. The unit has dedicated buttons at the top to swap between Bluetooth and USB wireless, along with dedicated multimedia controls.
A braided USB / Micro USB cable is included in the box, for recharging your keyboard. You can charge it either from your PC or from an adapter. Also, the battery offers an autonomy of up to 30 hours of gaming, even longer if you don’t use the lighting.
Last but not least, the keyboard is pretty slim; the keys are low-profile which eliminates the need for a wrist rest. The keys rest on an aluminum plate which improves the unit’s sturdiness and overall appeal.
#5. Redragon K566
Specs
- Dimensions: 435mm x 124mm x 40mm
- Switches: Mechanical, Outemu Brown or Red (not Cherry MX), Hot-Swap, 8 spare switches included
- Number of Keys: 104
- Lighting: RGB (no per-key)
- Programmable: Lighting Only
- OS Compatibility: Windows, Mac, Linux
- Connectivity: Wired, USB
If you’re looking for an affordable gaming keyboard, Redragon is always a good brand name to check out. Our current selection for this list is the Redragon K556.
This is a pretty standard RGB mechanical gaming keyboard featuring 104 keys. It doesn’t have macro keys like the more expensive keyboards we’ve already covered here. The software for it is downloadable from the Redragon website. This software only offers programmability for the RGB patterns (no keymapping, no macros). And as an important note here, it doesn’t offer the possibility to color each key individually. The software has some pre-set patterns, though, and you can always select a uni-color for all the keys.
The keyboard lacks dedicated multimedia controls. However, the functional keys cover the multimedia controls via the Fn key combo. The keycaps are double-shot injection molded.
When it comes to switches, the Redragon K556 is available with fairly decent Outemu Brown (tactile) or Outemu Red (linear) switches. For World of Warcraft, we recommend the brown ones, as they provide better feedback. In regard to the unit’s switches, there are two big pluses that we need to mention here. One, they are hot-swap, so in case they break or wear out, you can easily replace them without taking the keyboard apart, desoldering, and resoldering. And two, the box includes 8 spare switches (2 brown, 2 blue, 2 red, and 2 black).
The K556 keyboard has a pretty sturdy build. The keys rest on a metallic plate while the bottom plate is also metallic. It is a wired keyboard with a USB connector. The cable is standard, not braided. It features adjustable feet at the top as well as rubberized feet for anti-slip. It does not have any passthrough ports.
#6. Razer Blackwidow V3 Mini
Specs
- Dimensions: 319mm x 131mm x 41mm
- Switches: Mechanical, Razer Green, or Razer Yellow
- Number of Keys: 68
- Lighting: Per-Key RGB
- Programmable: via Razer Gaming Software
- OS Compatibility: Windows, Mac, Linux
- Connectivity: 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth, Micro USB
Mini keyboards aren’t exactly the best choice for World of Warcraft because all classes in this game have a huge amount of abilities that are best bound on independent keys. As these keyboards lack the functional keys, you’ll basically have to improvise and bind many abilities on key combos like Alt+1, Alt+2, Ctrl+1, Ctrl+2, etc. Of course, you can also compensate with a multi-button gaming mouse, like the Razer Naga V2 or Corsair Scimitar Pro.
Nevertheless, if you still prefer a mini keyboard, one of the best in the business is the Razer Blackwidow V3 Mini.
To begin with, the Razer Blackwidow V3 Mini is available with two types of switches – Razer Yellow and Razer Green. The yellow ones are linear, while the green ones are clicky. So, if you prefer a little bump and click on your keys, the green ones are for you. Conversely, the yellow linear switches are pretty much multi-purpose but will shine mostly for shooter games, where you need to keep a button pressed rather than spam it. The keycaps are ABS doubleshot, pretty durable, and ergonomic.
The Blackwidow V3 Mini is a fully programmable keyboard via the Razer Gaming Software. This software offers the possibility to map every key as you want, record macros, and of course, customize the RGB lighting as well as color each key the way you want. There are several pre-set lighting modes, as well as 5 onboard profile memories.
In terms of connectivity, this Razer keyboard offers 3-in-1 possibilities. These are HyperSpeed wireless 2.4 GHz (via dongle), Bluetooth, and USB-C cable. The unit has a switch on the back that allows you to select between them. The advertised battery autonomy is 200 hours, but that’s probably for using it with the lights off and via the Bluetooth connection. However, using it at its full potential it should still provide up to around 50 hours of gameplay.
The unit has a pretty sturdy build, with a top aluminum cover. It has flip-up feet on the back at the top as well as anti-slip rubber pads. The included USB cable is basically meant for charging it, but you can keep it connected at all times and use your keyboard as a wired one. It’s a braided, sturdy cable. Also, the keyboard integrates a small storage unit for the wireless dongle.
Final Word
These are some of the best keyboards for World of Warcraft and MMO gaming in 2023. They are all equipped with mechanical switches. They are all RGB and come with either a driver or software that offers the possibility to at least customize the color patterns of your keys, while some also allow for advanced macro recording and key mapping. The list includes both wired and wireless keyboards. Also, the models we’ve presented on this page should cover all budgets.
