WoW Classic – Winterspring Rugged Leather Skinning Spot

by Leave a Comment

This WoW Classic skinning spot is pretty similar to the Feralas Heavy & Thick Leather Skinning Spot that we’ve already covered here. It’s a yeti cave, but since the mobs are higher in level, you’ll get mostly Rugged Leather from them. Although it’s a pretty popular spot, not everyone knows about it so we’re going to cover it here with as much detail as possible.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 60 character level
  • Minimum 275 skinning skill level
  • Skinning knife

Where to go:

First of all, this skinning spot is pretty easy to access compared to others. It’s located in eastern Winterspring, very close to Everlook (62, 36), which is a neutral quest hub. So, whether you play Alliance or Horde, first fly to Everlook in Winterspring. From there, go a bit east, to Ice Thistle Hills. The entrance to the yeti cave is at (67, 42).

What to do:

Kill all the yetis in the cave and outside the cave, and skin them for their Rugged Leather and Thick Leather. You can also get Rugged Hide and Thick Hide from them.

The mobs you’re looking for are:

  • Ice Thistle Yeti
  • Ice Thistle Matriarch
  • Ice Thistle Patriarch

Their level range is 55-58, so you should be able to skin them starting with a minimum 275 skinning skill level.

Now, it’s best to stick to the yetis inside the cave, and the ones right outside the entrance. That’s because they’re closer together and you won’t have to run around too much to stack them for easy skinning once they’re dead.

However, the respawn rate of these yetis is not super. It’s pretty much a one-man spot. So, if you have competition here, you might need to clear the yetis outside the cave, as well. You’ll find more yetis and other skinnable creatures (bears and chimeras) in this level range all the way south to (67, 51), though.

Loot:

After one hour of skinning at the yeti cave in Winterspring, I got the following loot:

  • Rugged Leather x 169
  • Thick Leather x 59
  • Thick Hide x 4
  • Rugged Hide x 6

The yetis are humanoid, so they also drop coins, gray and green items. So, I also got around 18-20g after selling all the trash loot.

Tips:

By skinning the mobs at the Ice Thistle Hills, you can level up your skinning skill to 375. Thus, in case your character is capped at the Vanilla WoW 300 skinning skill level, it’s a good idea to go to Hellfire Peninsula first, unlock Master Skinning (300-375), then come to this spot. Within 1-1.5 hours of skinning here, you’ll have your skill at 375.

The Hellfire Peninsula Skinning trainers are:

  • Horde: Moorutu at (56, 38) in Thrallmar
  • Alliance: Jelena Nightsky (54, 63) in Honor Hold

The yeti cave also holds a Rich Thorium Vein and a Small Thorium Vein spawns. The small vein is close to the entrance, the rich one is deeper inside the cave. If you have over 275 mining skill, you should also get at least one stack of Thorium from this cave. For Thorium mining, you can also check out this route in Eastern Plaguelands.
