WoW Classic – Feralas Heavy & Thick Leather Skinning Spot

by Leave a Comment

Although you won’t exactly get super rich in WoW Classic by farming and selling leather from the Vanilla areas, the following spot just needs to be here, simply because it’s one of the best spots for Heavy Leather and Thick Leather. That’s because all the monsters here are skinnable, they’re all pretty close together and not scattered all over the place, and they’re also humanoids (yetis), so they drop some coins and have a slightly higher chance than beasts to drop items.

Requirements:

  • Character level 55
  • Minimum skinning skill 215
  • Skinning knife

Where to go:

First of all, the place is called Feral Scar Vale; it’s a yeti cave located in Feralas at (54, 56).

Horde: For Horde players, getting to this spot is a bit easier than for the Alliance. That’s because the Horde FP in the area, at Camp Mojache (75, 44), is closer to the spot. So, to get there, fly to Camp Mojache either from Thunder Bluff or Orgrimmar, then follow the road west and at about (54, 51) leave the road and go south until you reach the cave at Feral Scar Vale (54, 56).

Alliance: The Alliance FP that’s the closest to this spot is at Thalanaar (89, 45), close to the entry point into Thousand Needles. So, fly there, then go west into Feralas, and follow the road to (54, 51), then leave the road and go south until you reach the cave at Feral Scar Vale (54, 56).

Note: The road west into Feralas passes right through the Horde Camp Mojache, so as an Alliance player, you can avoid aggro from the Horde NPCs by going around this camp through the northern side.

What to do:

Once you reach the cave at Feral Scar Vale (54, 56), start killing yetis and skin them for Heavy Leather, Thick Leather, Heavy Hides, and Thick Hides.

There are three types of mobs in this cave:

  • Feral Scar Yeti
  • Enraged Feral Scar
  • Hulking Feral Scar

Their level range is 43 – 46, so you should be able to skin the lowest level ones starting with a Skinning Skill level of 215.

Loot:

After one hour of skinning yetis in this cave, I got the following amount of leather:

  • Heavy Leather x 110
  • Thick Leather x 113
  • Heavy Hide x 7
  • Thick Hide x 3

The additional loot from the yetis, as in several green and gray items, sold for around 10g.

Tips:

You can farm these yetis starting at level 43, but we’ve recommended a 55 character level for this spot, to make sure most of them are gray, so you won’t waste too much time killing them.

For Death Knights, the Flight Paths at Camp Mojache and Thalanaar are already available. So, it’s easier to get here as you won’t have to discover additional Flight Masters and walk all the way through the other zones to get here.

The yeti mobs in the cave drop a quest item – the OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon. You can turn in the quest at the Homing Robot OOX-22/FE (53, 55) right after the first cave segment, and escort the robot chicken out. At the end of the escort, you’ll be attacked by 3 lvl 46 yetis, so if you’re only 45-46, you might have to put up some fight.

There is a skinning trainer and a leatherworking trainer at Camp Mojache, so for Horde players, this spot can be quite great to level up both skinning and leatherworking.
