Briarthorn is one of the most valuable low-level herbs in WoW Classic. That’s because you can also get Swiftthistle from each node. It’s not that easy to farm consistently as it often shares a spawn with other herbs like Mageroyal or Silverleaf, found in the same close vicinity.
However, the following Duskwood herbalism route should grant you considerably more Briarthorn than other herbs.
Requirements:
- Minimum level 45 character
- Minimum 115 Herbalism skill
- Minimum Apprentice Riding
- Ground Mount (at least 60% speed)
Where to go:
As the title suggests, this herb gathering route is in Duskwood, so here are the easiest ways to reach this zone as Alliance and Horde.
Alliance: Fly to Darkshire (75, 46) in the eastern part of Duskwood. Or, if you haven’t discovered this Flight Path yet, start from Stormwind, go east into Elwynn Forest, and then cross the river on the southern border into Duskwood.
Horde: There aren’t any Horde Flight Masters in Duskwood. The closest one is at the Grom’ Gol Base Camp (32, 29) in Stranglethorn Vale. So, either take the zeppelin there from Orgrimmar or fly there, then follow the road north into Duskwood.
What to do:
Follow the route marked on the map above and gather all the Briarthorn, Mageroyal, Kingsblood, Bruiseweed, and Wild Steelbloom that you can find.
- The areas that you shouldn’t leave unchecked are:
- Tranquil Gardens Cemetery – at around (80, 64)
- The Rotting Orchard – at around (64, 71)
- The Yorgen Farmstead – at around (50, 73)
- Vul’Gol Ogre Mound – at around (35, 72)
- Addle’s Stead (23, 69) – and the area around it
- The entire western and eastern sides of Twilight Grove
You can also visit the area west of Raven Hill Cemetery – sometimes you’ll find 1-2 extra Briarthorn nodes there, but not always.
Although this Duskwood Herbalism route will bring you more Briarthorn than other herbs, it’s important to pick up any other herb that you come across. Each key area can only have a pre-determined number of herbs up at the same time and if those aren’t Briarthorn, there’s a good chance you won’t find any Briarthorn there until you or someone else picks up the already available herbs. This way, on the next local herb respawn, one, two, or more herb nodes can be Briarthorn.
Loot:
After one hour of gathering while following this route, I got the following herbs:
- Briarthorn x 96
- Swiftthistle x 33
- Wild Steelbloom x 14
- Bruiseweed x 42
- Kingsblood x 31
- Mageroyal x 29
Tips:
It takes between 5-10 minutes for the herbs to re-spawn. So, considering that completing this route takes around 10 minutes (or more if you don’t have 100% riding speed), you should always find at least a few herb nodes in all key points of the route.
You only need 70 skill level in Herbalism to gather Briarthorn. However, you’ll need at least 100 skill for Bruiseweed, and at least 115 for Wild Steelbloom.
The areas at the Tranquil Gardens Cemetery and Raven Hill Cemetery also have several spawn points for Grave Moss, and you’ll always find at least 1 Grave Moss node up every time.
The ogre camp at Vul’Gol and the several Worgen camps in Duskwood have multiple spawn points for Solid Chests; you can also collect their contents especially if all the mobs in their close vicinity are gray, so you won’t have to put up a fight. Sometimes they contain blue or even epic items, as well as crafting recipes.
Duskwood is also a great for gathering minerals. So, if you also have Mining on your character, you’ll also get at least a few stacks of Tin Ore, Copper Ore, and Iron Ore.
