In WoTLK Classic, Badlands still remains one of the best places for Mithril Ore and Iron Ore mining. That’s because the area offers high visibility and the terrain is easy to navigate with a ground mount.
The WotLK Classic Badlands mining route is pretty similar to the retail Badlands mining route; however, there are several major differences. First of all, in WotLK Classic, there is only one flight path (at Kargath), and that’s for Horde only. Second of all, the area is not that easy to access, especially for Horde players who haven’t discovered this FP yet. Third of all, the map is different from the retail and some of the monsters in retail aren’t present in the classic Badlands at all. And finally, you can’t use a flying mount in the classic zones, so for an hour of mining, you won’t be able to gather as much ore as you would in retail.
Requirements:
- Character: Minimum Level 55
- Mining: Minimum 175 skill level
- Mining Pick
- At least basic riding skill
How to reach Badlands:
Alliance: As we’ve already mentioned above, in classic WoW there isn’t any FP in Badlands for the Alliance. Therefore, the easiest way to reach this zone is to fly to Thelsamar in Loch Modan, and from there, follow the path south into Badlands (entry point is at 46, 81).
Horde: As a Horde player, if you don’t already have the FP at Kargath, reaching Badlands is quite a long walk. One way to get there is to start from Hammerfall in Arathi Highlands, go all the way south into The Wetlands, follow the road south to Dun Algaz (54, 72), pass through the tunnel into Loch Modan, and continue going south to the Badlands entry point at (46, 81).
What to do:
Simply follow the route illustrated on the map above, gathering all the Iron Ore, Mithril Ore, and Gold Ore that you can find.
The circled areas on the map at:
- Dustbelch Grotto (7, 85);
- Agmond’s End (43, 80);
- Camp Boff (56, 82);
- Lethlor Ravine (80, 51).
…are points of somewhat higher interest as you’ll find between 1-3 mining nodes there, especially in the ogre cave at Dustbelch Grotto, and to the east, as Lethlor Ravine.
Loot:
After one hour of mining following this route, I got the following:
- Mithril Ore x 122
- Iron Ore x 98
- Gold Ore x 14
- Black Vitriol x 1
- Lesser Moonstone x 2
- Jade x 3
- Star Ruby x 1
- Aquamarine x 3
- Citrine x 2
I was also lucky enough to get a Witchfury sword from one of the ogres at Dustbelch Grotto.
Of course, along with the mineral ore, I also got a few stacks of Heavy Stone and Solid Stone, but these usually have low AH value.
Tips:
Horde Death Knights have the FP at Kargath already available. So, if you have a Horde DK with mining, you can easily just fly here from Undercity; you won’t need to travel on foot.
If you have Jewelcrafting, you can prospect the Mithril some of the Mithril for Aquamarines, and craft Aquamarine Signets. Depending on the server, some of these can sell for higher profits.
