The price for Blackened Dragonscales might not be that high, however Dragonscale Leg Armor enchantments still sell for 450-500g. So, if you have a skinner / leatherworker, a Blackened Dragonscales farming session might bring you a couple of thousands. On top of that Savage Leather still has a nice price per stack on most servers. So, here’s a spot for farming these types of Cataclysm leather.
Requirements:
- Minimum level 85;
- Skinning: minimum 500;
- Skinning knife.
Where to go:
Use the portal to Twilight Highlands from Stormwind City (Alliance) to teleport to Highbank (80,75), or from Orgrimmar (Horde) to teleport to Dragonmaw Port (75,50). From there move to the southern area of Twilight Highlands, the Obsidian Forest, around (64,78).
What to do:
Start grinding on the dragonkin mobs at the Obsidian Forest. They are all level 85, so it’s very important for you to be 85 as well. Otherwise you’ll have difficulties in killing them. These mobs are: Obsidian Charscale, Obsidian Viletongue and Gloomwing drakes. Loot their corpses and skin them all. They drop Savage Leather (no scraps), and more important, Obsidian Dragonscales. Occasionally you’ll get Bloated Stomachs which will award you with extra Volatile Elements.
Loot:
After 1 hour of skinning at the Obsidian Forest, I got the following valuables:
Savage Leather x 92 = 90g/stack = 414g
Blackened Dragonscale x 51 = 5g/each = 255g
Dragon Flank x 62 = 10g/stack = 31g
Volatile Fire x 7 = 5g/each = 35g
Volatile Water x 4 = 5g/each = 20g
Volatile Earth x 5 = 5g/each = 25g
Green Item x 2 = 25g/each = 50g
Cash (after selling the trash loot): 74g
TOTAL: 873g after 1 hour of grinding.
Tips:
Although this may not be an extraordinary spot for Savage Leather, we had to put it here as it’s one of the very few places in the game where you can get a decent amount of Blackened Dragonscales. These are not very expensive in general, but at times, prices may go up either for the scales or the leg armor enchantments made from them. Therefore, in a case like this, Obsidian Forest may turn into a good spot for a farming session, if you have a skinner/leatherworker.
The price for a stack of Savage Leather can sometimes reach 150 or even 200g. The average price for a stack is 90-100g, but needless to say, you can create a stock of Savage Leather and sell it all when the prices are peaked.
If you also have Leatherworking and some recipes, especially leg enchantments, craft some and sell those. This way you might get higher profits.
The Savage Leather can be turned into Heavy Savage Leather, at a rate of 1 to 5. So, if you have Leatherworking, you can also craft some Heavy Savage Leather.
The mobs are quite spread out throughout the camp, so it’s a good spot for single target classes.
