If you have a skinner and don’t know what leather to gather, a good choice is always Knothide Leather. Even if the price for it is not that high all the time, Heavy Knothide Leather is most of the times pricey. One of the best spots for farming Knothide Leather is in Nagrand. To make it clear, we’re talking here about the TBC, old Nagrand, not the new, Warlords of Draenor Nagrand. So, here’s a short guide for loading up with this type of leather.
Requirements:
- Minimum level 65;
- Skinning: minimum 335 Skill;
- Skinning knife.
Where to go:
If you play Horde, teleport to Shattrath City in Terokkar Forest, then fly to Garadar (56,36) in Nagrand. The best spot for Skinning-Leatherworking here, is West of Skysong Lake (59,28), around location (49,29)(see map). If you play Alliance, teleport to Shattrath City, fly to Telaar (53,70) in Nagrand then fly North, towards Skysong Lake (59,28). The spot you’re looking for is West of Skysong Lake (59,28), around location (49,29)(see map). You can also fly directly there if you have your own flying mount.
Or, use the portal to Blasted Lands in Stormwind City or Orgrimmar, go through the Dark Portal into Hellfire Peninsula, and from there fly to Nagrand at Garadar (56,36) if you’re Horde, or to Telaar (53,70) if you’re Alliance. From your faction’s city in Nagrand, go to Skysong Lake (59,28).
What to do:
Kill all the Talbuk Thorngrazers and the Clefthoof Bulls then skin them for the Knothide Leather, Knothide Leather Scraps. Clefthoof Bulls also drop Thick Clefthoof Leather. Also, don’t spare the Wild Elekks in this area, they are not many but drop Knothide Leather as well and drop Pair of Ivory Tusks, items used to raise the reputation with The Consortium. The beasts you’re about to kill drop meat used in Cooking.
Loot:
After 1 hour and about 10 minutes here, I got:
Thick Clefthoof Leather x 21 = 5g/each = 105g
Knothide Leather x 180 = 100g/stack = 900g
Knothide Leather Scraps x 187 = Knothide Leather x 37 = 185g
Talbuk Venison x 92 = 10g/stack = 46g
Clefthoof Meat x 40 = 20g/stack = 40g
Pair of Ivory Tusks x 7 = 5g/each = 35g
Green Item x 5 = 30g/each = 150g
Cash (after selling the trash loot) = 43g
TOTAL: 1504g after one hour of skinning.
Tips:
If you have Leatherworking, you can craft Heavy Knothide Leather from all the leather you gather here. So, I turned the all my 217 Knothide Leather into Heavy Knothide Leather I had:
Knothide Leather x 217 = Heavy Knothide Leather x 43 = 30g/each = 1290g
Usually it’s much more profitable to craft Heavy Knothide Leather from the Knothide Leather, sometimes 1 x Heavy Knothide Leather can reach 50g.
If you ignore the Clefthoof Bulls and go only after Talbuks you can get much more Knothide Leather than the number I got. However, I usually get a Thick Clefthoof Leather to have a more diversified loot.
Sell the Pair of Ivory Tusks in stacks of 3 because that’s the number required for The Consortium reputation quest: “A Head Full Of Ivory“. You can turn these in for 250 reputation, until you reach the friendly standing with The Consortium faction. You can mention in the Nagrand general chat that you have Ivory for sale. There’s a chance players leveling in Nagrand will buy them for you at that moment, since they need them for quests.
This is also a great spot to raise your Skinning and Leatherworking skill.
Some of the green items dropped from these mobs, although not many, can be sold for up to 2-300g, depending on their aspect. People buy cool green items to use for their transmogrifications.
