Resilient Leather is one of the crafting materials that can be acquired through Skinning in the Dragon Isles. Although there are quite a few types of beasts that can be skinned for Resilient Leather, the best ones are the ottuks. That’s because they don’t have as much HP as other beasts such as mammoths, broadhoof, or rhinos and you can typically find them in small groups. They’re easy to kill, and some are neutral, so they’re easier to deal with than other beasts, especially if you’re undergeared.
So, here’s a great spot for farming Resilient Leather exclusively from ottuks in Ohn’ahran Plains.
Requirements:
- Dragon Isles Skinning
- At least green Skinning gear
Where to go:
Fly to Pinewood Post (80, 58) in Ohn’ahran Plains. From there, go a bit northwest until you reach the river, at approx. (79, 49).
What to do:
Kill all the Giant Ottuk Agitator, Giant Ottuk Whomper, and Riverbend Chomper that you can find on both riverbanks, loot their corpses and skin them. If you’re specialized as a Bait Crafter, don’t forget to craft and use Elusive Creature Bait with the desired infusion. The ottuks drop Maybe Meat, so you should get enough of it to craft your bait. They also drop Exceptional Pelts.
Loot:
After one hour of grinding and skinning the ottuks at the location above, I got the following valuables:
- Resilient Leather x 483
- Dense Hide x 17
- Adamant Scales x 10
- Lustrous Scale Hide x 6
- Cacophonous Thunderscale x 6
- Rockfang Leather x 1
- Exceptional Pelt x 34
- Green Item x 3
- Rousing Decay x 42
- Gold after selling the trash loot: ~480g
For this particular run, I used T5 green Skinning gear. My specialization was Bait Crafter – 25, Elemental Infusion – 40, Mastery – 20, so I was able to use my Elusive Creature Bait CD about 9 times throughout the session. I went with Infusion: Decay for each bait craft, thus I managed to get Rousing Decay x 42. The ottuks themselves and the other creatures around don’t drop any Rousing materials. The scales in the loot table were dropped by some of the summoned elusive beasts.
Tips:
Resilient Leather itself isn’t an expensive crafting material, so just selling it won’t be profitable. However, if you also have Leatherworking, you can make fairly decent profits by crafting and selling the green PvP gear (i.e. Crimson Combatant’s Resilient pieces). Some of these pieces still sell for over 2000g a piece. The patterns for the Crimson Combatant’s gear can be bought from the Auction House and they’re pretty cheap.
To increase your chances of gathering Dense Hides, as well as other rare or green materials through skinning, Perception is the key stat for your skinning gear. Therefore, get as much as possible, even if you’re using the green skinning equipment. For the session above, I’ve had 143 Perception on my gear.
You can also use Crystalline Phials of Perception. These are BoP though, and can only be bought through crafting orders (at least for now).
