Dragonflight – Ohn’ahran Windsong Plumage Skinning Spot

Most skinnable creatures found throughout drop one type of rare material when skinned. Windsong Plumage are some of the most expensive crafting reagents of this type. That’s because they drop from eagles which usually aren’t found in high concentrations. They are also flying, which makes them a hassle to pull and kill.

So, here’s a spot in Ohn’ahran Plains where you can find a fairly decent amount of eagles that can be skinned for Windsong Plumage.

Requirements:

• Dragon Isles Skinning
• At least green Skinning gear
• Ranged class or a spell with a fairly long range
• Bait Crafter -> Mastery 40 points (optional)

Where to go:

Fly to Maruukai (63, 42) in Ohn’ahran Plains. The area with the eagles is east and northeast of the Maruukai FP.

What to do:

Kill and skin all the Sunwing Ohuna and Clawfisher Eagles that fly around the area east of Maruukai. You’ll find quite a few of them on the peak north from Maruukai, at around (59, 24). Via skinning, they drop Resilient Leather, and the rare skinning drop – Windsong Plumage.

Also, if you have the Bait Crafter trait, you can use your Elusive Creature Bait with the desired infusion to summon an elusive creature that you can skin for extra stuff, including Rousing elements.

The area also has various other skinnable creatures, such as Wild Argali, Range Goats, hornstriders, prowlers, salamanthers, etc.

Loot:

After one hour of skinning the Sunwing Ohuna and Clawfisher Eagles in Ohn’ahran Plains, I got the following valuables:

• Resilient Leather x 415
• Adamant Scales x 29
• Dense Hide x 14
• Lustrous Scale Hide x 8
• Windsong Plumage x 22
• Iridescent Plume x 6
• Cacophonous Thunderscale x 3
• Rousing Decay x 45
• Green Item x 4
• Gold after selling trash ~450g

I’ve also got several fish and meats from the Curiously-Shaped Stomachs granted by the skinning trait Harvesting but vendored these as trash as well.

For this skinning session, I used blue (T5) skinning gear. I also had Trophy Collector 40/40. This trait offers a nice Perception bonus and improved chances to get rare materials.

The mobs in the area don’t drop Rousing Decay. The decay that I got is from the skinned elusive beasts summoned with Decay-Infused Creature Bait.

Tips:

Even if you don’t have the Trophy Collector trait maxed out, you should still be able to get at least 10 plumage per hour. Sometimes these sell for 7-800g since they’re a hassle to farm. Therefore, especially if you’re farming your weekly Curious Hide Scraps, this makes it a great skinning spot as you can also make a decent amount of gold while you’re at it.

To improve your chances of collecting rare materials through skinning, you can use Crystalline Phials of Perception. These are BoP though, so you can only acquire them through crafting orders (at least for now).
