Compared to the obnoxious amount of buffed ore deposits, the Forbidden Reach isle doesn’t hold as many Frigid or Windswept herbs. However, you can still gather a fairly decent amount of herbs here, especially Bubble Poppy and Saxifrage, along with the omnipresent Hochenblume.
So, here’s a Herbalism route for the Forbidden Reach.
Requirements:
- Dragon Isles Herbalism
- Mastering the Elements trait unlocked
- GatherMate2 addon (optional)
Where to go:
Fly to the Forbidden Reach in the northeastern area of the Dragon Isles. If you haven’t been there yet, the quest that introduces you to this area is given by Kurazidaia (61, 26). She is up at The Seat of the Aspects in Valdrakken.
What to do:
Follow the route above and gather all the herbs that you can find. Also, use your Overload Elemental Herb ability on the Frigid, Windswept, or Infurious herbs. I used mine mostly on Frigid herbs as these seem to be more abundant here.
The route covers several Winds of the Isles which help with better Vigor management. It also covers several caves which can hold one herb node. I usually skip the ones that have many mobs inside. The ones that I usually visit are at:
- Skyfox Den (41, 60);
- Darksand Hollow (80, 60);
- Hoard of Shimmermaw (68, 45);
Other key points on this route are:
- Warder’s Solace (69, 12);
- Skyward Watch (41, 12);
- Ebon Landing (87, 60);
- Caldera of the Menders (42, 36);
The area at the Caldera of the Menders has multiple possible herb spawn locations; sometimes you’ll find 3-4 up simultaneously. Therefore, if your Overload Elemental Herb ability is up and you can’t find a buffed herb right away, it’s not a bad idea to head directly to this location. This pretty much stands for mining, as well. Also, here’s our mining route in Forbidden Reach.
Loot:
After one hour of gathering herbs following this route in Forbidden Reach, I got the following valuables:
- Rousing Frost x 115
- Rousing Air x 25
- Rousing Order x 44
- Rousing Ire x 31
- Lava Beetle x 25
- Hochenblume x 589
- Saxifrage x 67
- Bubble Poppy x 76
- Writhebark x 46
For this particular run, I’ve used basic green Herbalism gear. I’ve also had 40 points in Mastering the Elements, at least 20 points in each of its sub-specs, as well as 40 points in Bountiful Harvests.
Tips:
The Forbidden Reach is packed full of mobs quite a bit stronger than in the rest of the Dragon Isles. Thus, having extra Deftness when gathering herbs can make a difference. So, you might want to consider using Aerated Phials of Deftness. Or, you can use Crystalline Phials of Perception for extra seeds. These are BoP phials and can be acquired via Crafting Orders.
Needless to say, investing in the blue Herbalism gear and increasing your Finesse and Skill will yield larger amounts of herbs.
Having at 40 points in Mastering the Elements and at least 20 points in each one of its sub-specs helps with the reset of your Overload Elemental Herb ability. So, if you’re specialized like this, you’ll get more Rousing essences.
