Stratholme is one of the WoW Classic instances packed with a huge amount of 55-60 level mobs, which makes it a great place to farm Runecloth. Also, just like in most other dungeons, most of the mobs inside are elite, so they have higher chances to drop a wide array of valuable stuff.
The following Stratholme dungeon farming method focuses only on the Living Quarters. That’s because the human mobs here drop Righteous Orbs, while the undead mobs don’t. The undead also have a loot table that’s pretty rich in non-valuable stuff.
Requirements:
- Minimum 75 character level
- AoE spec
Where to go:
Stratholme is one of the main dungeons in WoW Classic, located in the northwestern part of Eastern Plaguelands. To get there, fly to Light’s Hope Chapel (75, 52) in EPL, and from there, follow the road northwest. The main entrance to the dungeon is at (53, 29), while the Service Entrance is at (43.5, 19.5).
What to do:
Enter Stratholme through the main gate and follow the path to the left, towards the Crusader’s Square (a.k.a. “The Living Quarters). You might need to clear some of the undead in your way.
Once at the Crusader’s Square, start clearing all the human mobs there, outside and inside The Scarlet Bastion, and loot their corpses. They drop a lot of valuable stuff, including Righteous Orb, Runecloth, crafting recipes, as well as BoP blue and epic items.
Follow the corridors south, inside the Scarlet Bastion, through the Hall of the High Command, to the last rooms where Archivist Galford and Grand Crusader Dathrohan are located, and kill them as well. Archivist Galford almost always drops a Righteous Orb.
Once you’re done with these bosses, return the way you came and go east through the Market Row area of Stratholme. Avoid as many undead packs as you can and exit the instance through the Service Entrance (you won’t be able leave the instance through the main entrance). The map above should point out your route inside the instance better.
On this particular route, you will also encounter several other bosses, including:
- Timmy The Cruel
- The Unforgiven
- Balzaphon
- Magistrate Barthildas
- Hearthsinger Forresten
- Skull
Kill them as well. Even though they drop BoP items, they also have high chances of dropping other blue BoE items. Also, Magistrate Barthilas drops the Key to the City, which you can use later on to enter Stratholme through the Service Entrance, as well as open other doors inside the instance, including the path to the final boss.
Once you’re out of the instance, reset it, return to the main entrance, enter a new Stratholme instance and repeat the run. Or, you can re-enter through the Service Entrance and go to the Living Quarters through the Market Row.
I usually skip the upper side of the Living Quarters – The Hoard – where Cannon Master Willey is, but you can clear this area as well. Those NPCs also drop Righteous Orbs.
One run following this path shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes with a well-geared, 75+ level character, with high AoE damage.
Loot:
After three Living Quarter runs (a total of approx. 45 minutes) inside Stratholme, I got the following useful stuff and gold:
- Righteous Orb x 9
- Runecloth x 464
- Blue BoP items x 10
- Green Items x 13
- Crafting recipes x 7
- Traveler’s Backpack x 2
- Bone Fragments x 73
- Major Mana Potion x 8
- Major Healing Potion x 6
- Gold (after selling the trash loot): ~50g
Even if you come here with a completely empty inventory on your character, your bags will be full or close to full after three runs. So, you’ll either have to destroy some of the trash loot and even some of the green items to continue.
Also, you can set your bind at Light’s Hope Chapel, use your Hearthstone when your bags are full, sell all the trash, mail the good stuff to your auctioneer character (if you have one), then return to Stratholme and continue until a full lock-out.
Tips:
Righteous Orbs are important reagents for the Enchant Weapon – Crusader and they can only drop in Stratholme, so they can be sold for a fairly decent amount of gold. This being said, these orbs should be your primary goal for this WoW Classic instance farming method.
It’s best to run Stratholme with a character that has at least 225 skill level in Enchanting so that you can Disenchant the blue BoP items dropped by the bosses for Large Brilliant Shards. For each Living Quarters run, you should get at least 7 Large Brilliant Shards.
By disenchanting the green stuff, you’ll get at least one Illusion Dust or one Greater Eternal Essence from each one of them.
If you have a character with the Enchanter / Tailor profession combo, you can craft green items from some of your Runecloth and disenchant them for dusts and essences. Some of the cheapest items that you can craft from Runecloth with Tailoring, are Runecloth Robe, Runecloth Cloak, Runecloth Gloves, and Runecloth Belt.
The Crimson Guard mobs (and others) have a Disarm ability. Therefore, if you play a full melee character, it’s a good idea to use a weapon with a Steel Weapon Chain on it.
The skeletons inside Stratholme drop Bone Fragments which are required for a repeatable quest in Eastern Plaguelands. The quest requires 30 of them, so you can auction them in stacks of 30.
