In WoW Classic, the Formula: Enchant Weapon – Crusader drops from only a handful of mobs, as opposed to retail WoW. It’s also a rather rare drop, so it’s going to take a while to get it. And especially if you play on a high-pop server, you may have to battle other players competing for the mobs that drop it.
So, here’s what you need to do if you want to farm this Enchanting recipe.
Requirements:
- Minimum level 60 character
Where to go:
The mobs that drop this recipe are only a few, and they’re found only in Western Plaguelands, at the tower down the path from Hearthglen, at (55, 23), and on the path uphill where Huntsman Radley is, at (58, 36) – see map.
To get there, either fly to Chillwind Camp (43, 85) or to the Thondroril River FP (68, 50), then follow the path north that leads to Hearthglen.
What to do:
Kill all the Scarlet Spellbinders inside and outside the tower at (55, 23) and down the path at (58, 36), and loot their corpses. These are the only mobs that drop the Formula: Enchant Weapon – Crusader in WoW Classic (at least for now). You’ll find 6-7 Scarlet Spellbinders at the tower, and 1-3 at the second location down the path.
The mobs at the tower have pre-determined spawns. You’ll always find one spellbinder outside the tower, one behind the tower, two inside the tower downstairs, and two on top of the tower. There’s a mob that patrols the base of the tower; this one can be either a Scarlet Avenger or a Scarlet Spellbinder, so always kill it.
The mobs at the second location don’t have pre-determined spawns. In other words, they can be either Scarlet Avengers, Scarlet Mages, Scarlet Knights, or Scarlet Spellbinders. Kill them all, regardless which type they are, because on the next respawn they can be spellbinders.
There is also a Scarlet mob that patrols the road between the tower and the 2nd location; it can also spawn either as a Scarlet Avenger or as a Scarlet Spellbinder, so kill it as well, whenever it’s up.
The respawn rate of the Scarlet mobs at these two locations is between 5 and 8 minutes. Once you kill all of them, you can either go AFK and wait until they respawn, or simply grind on the other Scarlet mobs further down the road or the ones at Hearthglen. Although you won’t find any other spellbinders among them, you’ll still get Runecloth and green items from them, so it can be a more productive activity rather than just waiting.
Loot:
The last Crusader formula that I’ve gotten here dropped from one of the Scarlet Spellbinders at the top of the tower, after a total of 168 spellbinder kills, over several farming sessions.
Now, considering that their spawn rate is roughly 7 minutes, and you’ll get a rough number of 8 spellbinders (between the two locations) each time, that would be a rough number of 64 spellbinders per hour. So, if I had to put all the farming sessions together, those 168 kills would have taken more than 2.5 hours. But nonetheless, if you’re lucky, you can get it after only a few kills.
Tips:
There’s a rare elite mob – Scarlet High Clerist (level 63) – that can spawn at the top of the tower along with the Scarlet Spellbinders there and Cavalier Durgen. Therefore, if you play a character lower than level 63, taking this mob down may not be an easy task. Like most other WoW Classic rares, it only drops a green item.
If you have multiple WoW Classic characters over 60 level, you can bring one alt here, log in from time to time, and clear all the spellbinders. This way, you may end up with a quick Crusader Formula drop – easy gold.
In case you want to keep count of how many spellbinders you’ve killed, you can use the addon KillTrack.
