Spider’s Silk is one of the most valuable low-level items that you can farm in WoW Classic. That’s because it is a reagent for two level 25+ blue items, it has a rather low drop rate and most spiders that drop it aren’t found in large numbers. So, especially if you’re starting fresh on a new server, farming and selling Spider’s Silk can get you a fairly nice gold amount to buy your first mount, skill up professions, etc.
In this post, we’re going to point out one of the best spots in WoW Classic where you can farm Spider’s Silk.
Requirements:
- Minimum level 25 character
Where to go:
First of all, this spot is located in Duskwood, west of Twilight Grove, at around (33, 44). Evidently, getting there is easier if you play Alliance since Duskwood is an Alliance zone. But anyway, here’s how to get there whether you play Alliance or Horde.
Alliance: Fly to Darkshire (75, 46), or, if you haven’t discovered the Flight Path at Darkshire yet, start from Stormwind, go east into Elwynn Forest, and then cross the river on the southern border into Duskwood, then go to the area west of the Twilight Grove.
Horde: The closest Horde FP to Duskwood is at the Grom’Gol Base Camp (32, 29) in Stranglethorn Vale. So, either take the zeppelin there from Orgrimmar or fly there, then follow the road north into Duskwood. Once in Duskwood, go northwest to the area between Twilight Grove and the Raven Hill Cemetery.
What to do:
Kill all the Black Widow Hatchling spiders in the area between the Twilight Grove and the Raven Hill Cemetery, and loot their corpses. They have a pretty high drop rate for Spider’s Silk. One full area clear should grant you between 1-3 Spider’s Silk.
The Black Widow Hatchling spiders have a respawn rate between 5 – 8 minutes. So, if you come here with a 50+ character, you’re probably going to clear them within 3-4 minutes. Therefore, instead of waiting for them to spawn, you can go to the area west of Raven Hill Cemetery, at the Hushed Bank around (12, 48) and kill all the Venom Web Spiders, Pygmy Venom Web Spiders, and Green Recluse spiders there.
These spiders are lower in level than the black widows, thus, they have a lower drop rate for silk. But still, they have a similar loot table and can still drop it. They also seem to have a slightly higher drop rate for green items than the black widows.
Loot:
After one hour of grinding on the Duskwood spiders, I got the following valuable loot:
- Spider’s Silk x 23
- Spider Ichor x 118
- Large Venom Sac x 14
- Small Venom Sac x 9
- Green Item x 14
- Blue Item (Sentry Cloak) x 1
- Gold after selling the trash loot ~ 4g
These spiders also drop Gooey Spider Leg, Crunchy Spider Leg, and Crisp Spider Meat which are ingredients for several foods. However, they have very low value, so I’ve considered them trash loot and vendored them all.
Tips:
The two areas pointed out on the map hold several possible Solid Chest spawn locations. You’ll inevitably come across at least a few. Always collect their contents; sometimes you’ll find blue and even epic items, crafting recipes, and other useful stuff.
The Spider’s Silk can sometimes go for up to 10g a piece, depending on the server, that’s why it’s one of the best low-level items to farm in WoW Classic.
If you have the recipes, you can craft Spidersilk Boots and Toughened Leather Gloves out of your Spider’s Silk. The other reagents are pretty cheap and highly available. These blue items can go for 30-50g depending on the server.
