WotLK Classic – Storm Peaks Jormungar Scales Skinning Spot

by Leave a Comment

Jormungar Scales are crafting materials required for the Jormungar Leg Armor enchantment and for the Drums of the Wild buff. Although they’re not exactly expensive, not many people farm them in WotLK Classic, and sometimes there can be a shortage in the Auctions House. So, in case you’ll need to farm a bunch, here’s an excellent spot for them.

Requirements:

  • Minimum level 78 character
  • Minimum 405 Skinning skill
  • Skinning knife
  • Flying mount and Expert Riding

Where to go:

The place is called Hibernal Cavern. Its entrance is located in Storm Peaks, at (56, 64), east of Brunnhildar Village. To get there, fly to K3 (40, 84) and from there use your mount to fly northeast past Brunnhildar Village until you reach the cave. Or, if you don’t have any FPs unlocked in Storm Peaks, you can just teleport to Dalaran and fly northeast into Storm Peaks using your mount.

What to do:

Enter the Hibernal Cavern kill all the Ravenous Jormungar worms, loot their corpses, and skin them. Through skinning, you’ll get Jormungar Scales, Borean Leather, and occasionally Arctic Fur. They also drop Worm Meat and Chilled Meat.

The cave contains approx. 15-16 Ravenous Jormungar and their respawn rate isn’t exactly super. If you clear them fast, sometimes you’ll have to wait 1-2 minutes until they start to respawn. This being said, this is pretty much a one-man spot.

If there are other players here grinding on the worms, you might want to try out the other cave with Jormungar worms – Gimorak’s Den. However, the worms in Gimorak’s Den don’t seem to have such a good drop rate for Jormungar Scales. Also, this cave contains considerably more worgs. So, you’ll get fewer scales, but more Borean Leather, more Arctic Fur, and also Worg Haunches.

Loot:

After one hour of grinding on the Ravenous Jormungar in the Hibernal Cavern, I got the following valuables:

  • Jormungar Scale x 44
  • Borean Leather x 123
  • Chilled Meat x 28
  • Worm Meat x 67
  • Green Item x 3
  • Gold (after selling the trash loot) ~ 43g

Unfortunately, I didn’t get any Arctic Fur from any of the mobs in the cave, at least not during this particular run.

Tips:

Icemaw Bears also spawn inside the cave and they’ll fight the worms. If they manage to damage each other for more than approx. 30% of their HP, you won’t get any loot from them and you won’t be able to skin them. So, if a worm is fighting a bear, kill the bear and run away from to worm or reset the aggro; this way, you’ll be able to loot it and skin it.

Worm Meat is a reagent for Great Feast, a rather useful food for raids. Thus, sometimes can sell pretty well. If you have Cooking, you can also Spiced Worm Burgers or feasts and sell them, if it’s profitable.
