Especially now that the maximum WoW level has moved to 100, the Ruins of Guo-Lai in Vale of Eternal Blossoms has become a more viable gold farming spot. Back in the day, you kinda needed some decent gear to farm here properly. Nowadays, it’s pretty easy to defeat those mobs with a lvl 100 character, thus more loot.
Even though you won’t produce here 10’s of thousands of gold, this is still a pretty decend gold farming spot / method. So, here’s a short guide for what you have to do.
Requirements
- Minimum level 90;
- Flying mount;
- Wisdom of the Four Winds flying skill;
- Potions of Luck (3 for one hour);
- Tailoring / Mining (optional).
Where to go
Use the portal in your main city (Orgrimmar or Stormwind City) to teleport to Pandaria. Fly to Vale of Eternal Blossoms, at Shrine of Two Moons or Shrine of Seven Stars (depending on your faction), and from there fly to the northwestern part of the zone, at Ruins of the Guo-Lai (28,38).
What to do
Start grinding on all the Shao-Tien mobs that you see, and loot everything they drop. There’s plenty of them in the area marked on the map, and inside the Guo-Lai Halls.
Along with the pretty much average loot that most level 90 MoP mobs drop, and the Plundered Treasures generated by your Potions of Luck, these mobs also drop Ancient Guo-Lai Cache Keys. Within an hour, you should get at least 20 keys here.
Now, once your farming session is over, head inside the Guo-Lai Halls, at the Guo-Lai Vault chamber. Use your keys to open the Ancient Guo-Lai Caches here for extra loot. From these caches you will get a fair amount of gold, reputation (soulbound) items, extra resources and gear.
Loot
Here’s the loot that I managed to gather by farming for an hour at this spot, and after I have opened all the Plundered Treasure boxes, and used the 21 keys that I’ve got, to open 21 Ancient Guo-Lai Caches. Also, the character I’ve played had 700 Tailoring, and the quantity of Windwool Cloth was probably higher than you can get with a character w/o Tailoring.
Windwool Cloth x 520 = 1g / each = 520g
Black Trillium Ore x 22 = 1g / each = 22g
White Trillium Ore x 16 = 1.5g / each = 24g
Ghost Iron Ore x 91 = 1g / each = 91g
Fool’s Cap x 20 = 2g / each = 40g
Exotic Leather x 85 = 0.5g / each = 42g
Magnificent Leather x 3 = 40g / each = 120g
Ancient Pandaren Spices x 16 = 16g
Ancient Balsamic Vinegar x 12 = 12g
Aged Mogu’shan Cheese x 27 = 27g
Green Item x 17 = 50g / each = 850g
Blue Item x 1 = 150g
Mote of Harmony x 44 = 2.5g / each = 110g
Cash (after selling the trash loot): 1033g
Total: 3057g after one hour of grinding.
Tips
If the area is crowded, you can use the Premade Groups tab to join a group from a different server, in order to benefit from a full spawn of mobs.
I have evaluated the green items at 50g each to be reasonable, but some of the pieces can go for 150-200g, or if you get lucky, you may get a nice transmog piece that can sell for 1-2000g.
The floor of the Guo-Lai Vault chamber is full of traps, which can deal a considerable amount of damage even if you’re playing a level 100 character. Avoid the ones that suggest fire, wind and spikes. There should be a trail of tiles that look the same, leading to the place with the chests.
Don’t forget the Skyshard drops!
