Recipe Farming – Frost Oil

by Leave a Comment

Buying and selling in AH limited supply reagents and recipes can be very profitable. Of course, not all the limited supply items sold by various merchants in WoW can be sold for huge prices. But some of them can bring you easy and quite substantial profits. One of these limited supply items is the Alchemy Recipe: Frost Oil. So, here’s a short guide on how to obtain it, and how to sell it.

Requirements:

  • Minimum level 30.

Where to go:

If you play Horde, teleport to Undercity then fly to Strahnbrad (59,24) in Hillsbrad Foothills. From there, go a bit west, into the Ruins of Alterac.

If you play Alliance, it’s a bit trickier to get to the Ruins of Alterac, since Hillsbrad Foothills is basically a Horde zone since Cataclysm. Therefore, teleport to Ironforge, then fly to Chillwind Camp (43,85) in Western Plaguelands. From there follow the road south into Hillsbrad Foothills, and once in this zone, keep following the road until you reach the Ruins of Alterac.

What to do:

The merchant that sells the Recipe: Frost Oil, Bro’kin is at (44,22), on a wall in the northwestern part of the Ruins of Alterac. Go there, and buy the recipe from him.

If he doesn’t have the recipe, you should logout your character there, and check from time to time if the recipe has appeared within his items-for-sale list. Typically, this recipe has a respawn rate in the merchant’s list, of about 80-90 minutes. Therefore, the best idea is to bring a level 30-40 character, or a character that you don’t normally play, log it here, and check Bro’kin’s stuff from time to time, until you get 3-4 recipes. Then, go to the Auction House and sell them.

The merchant price of this Alchemy recipe is 22s. But you can sell it in AH for up to 500g, due to the fact that it’s rather rare, and not many players farm it.

Tips:

Although Frost Oil isn’t any extraordinary item and cannot be applied on items higher than level 165, it’s sought by players who want to farm Viscidus from Ahn’Qiraj, for the battle pet it drops. This boss must be damaged by frost spells, in order to be killed.

If you have an alchemist, you can learn this recipe and craft Frost Oil from time to time. The ingredients for this weapon oil are quite cheap, and one oil can sometimes be sold in AH for up to 150g, depending on server.
