Although this may not be the most viable gold farming method because it’s based on luck, it can still be profitable and worth to try, in order to diversify the stuff you sell in AH. That’s because the item that you’re going to look for is quite rare and sells for 10-12,000 gold.
Requirements:
- Rogue character;
- Minimum level 75;
- Cold Weather Flying skill;
- Flying Mount.
Where to go:
Teleport to Dalaran in Northrend (or ask a mage to make you a portal). From there fly to Wintergarde Keep (Alliance) or Venomspite (Horde), in Dragonblight. And from there go south to New Hearthglen (71,76).
What to do:
As the title suggests, start pickpocketing all the humanoid mobs at New Hearthglen. Your goal is to pickpocket the Decahedral Dwarven Dice, a rare toy which not exactly many people farm. Thus, it’s price on most servers is at least 10-12k gold.
There are plenty of mobs at New Hearthglen. All of them except the boss in the Cathedral and the bishop in the small chapel can be pickpocketed for this item. Therefore, since its a large camp, start at the western entry point, pickpocket your way into the camp, and the buildings, and exit through the eastern gate. Once you’re done with the mobs at New Hearthglen, go a bit south from the camp at Crusader’s Landing (72,81).
Now, keep in mind that the Decahedral Dwarven Dice is quite a rare item and you’ll have to be lucky to get it right away. Expect to pickpocket for at least 1-2 hours until you get it. However, considering the price it usually goes for, even if you’ll get it after two hours, it’s still 5,000-5,500g per hour, so it’s not a bad gold farming method to try.
Loot:
On my last session at New Hearthglen, I managed to get this toy after approx 1 hour and 50 min. The other loot and gold you’ll get from pickpocketing is insignificant though.
Decahedral Dwarven Dice x 1 = 11,000g
Cash (after selling the trash loot): 284g
Total: 11,284g after 1:50 hours of pickpocketing
Tips:
This item can drop basically from any humans and dwarves in Dragonblight and Icecrown. So, if you’re not lucky to get it at New Hearthglen, you can try Onslaught Harbor (9,46) in Icecrown. The mobs at Onslaught Harbor are more condensed but they are fewer than at New Hearthglen though. So, you might pickpocket them all too fast and have to wait until their “pocket loot” respawns. Or, you can Hop Servers in order to get a fresh run every time you finish. Also, at Onslaught Harbor, you can only pickpocked the mobs on the stairs and outside the main cathedral, and then AoE them down. Their respawn is quicker than the respawn of their pocket conents. Evidently, a new spawn of mobs will have their pockets full.
In order to make pickpocketing go smoother, here’s a macro that you can use:
#showtooltip
/cast Sap
/script SetCVar("autoLootDefault","1")
/cast Pick Pocket
/in 5 /script SetCVar("autoLootDefault","0")
This macro Saps the target, Pickpockets it and autoloots.
