Update 6.1
This method of gold farming has been nerfed. You could get 70-100g per run, just raw gold from the mobs at the entrance in DS, before 6.1. Now it appears you can only get 30-35g from this trash per run, and a very small amount of greens and recipes. So, whomever wants to farm Cataclysm level items, plus Embersilk and gold, Bastion of Twilight appears to be the best choice at the moment.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
The 100 level cap introduced with the Warlords of Draenor expansion has made it possible to solo the Cataclysm 25-man raid dungeons. This made Dragon Soul to be one of the best spots to farm raw gold, without getting the Auction House involved. So, here’s what you must do and the requirements to make gold in DS 25-man.
Requirements:
- Level 100;
- AoE spec;
- iLevel minimum 600;
- Ground mount.
Where to go:
The entrance to Dragon Soul is inside the Caverns of Time, Tanaris (65,50). The easiest way to get there is to teleport to Dalaran, and use the Portal to Caverns of Time (26,51), at the Violet Citadel. Speak with the dragon a the entrance of the caverns, who will fly you all the way down. The entry point to Dragon Soul is a bit East from where the dragon drops you off. Follow the path with the burning trees. Anyway, Caverns of Time has a map now, and you’ll see exactly where the entrance is.
What to do:
Before entering Dragon Soul, make sure the instance is set to 25-man.
Once inside the raid instance, mount up and body-pull all the trash mobs by the entrance and down to the first boss Morchok. Depending on the character you play and gear, you can get them all in one pull, or pull them in two sessions.
IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT PULL AND KILL THE FIRST BOSS! By killing the boss, you won’t be able to reset the instance anymore.
As you stack the mobs to AOE them down, keep running around them to avoid their stun area-of-effect spells. They have a 5 sec. stun, which doesn’t seem to have a diminishing return. If you get stunned, you may not escape the barrage of stuns thrown at you, and may die.
Not all the mobs inside DS drop loot and gold. For example, as you clear the mobs channeling the portals in the area, Twilight Siege Breaker elementals will begin to emerge from those cleared portals, and charge at you from all over the place, exploding as they reach you, until you reset combat, or leave the instance. Although they aren’t a major threat, they can be very annoying by keeping you in combat, as you won’t be able to summon your mount.
Clearing the whole area around the first boss, should take you 4-5 minutes tops. Once you’ve killed and looted all the mobs, leave the raid-instance, reset and repeat. If you’re fast, you should be able to do 10 runs in less than an hour, which will grant you up to 1000g or even more, and plenty of epic recipes, epic items and greens.
Loot:
After 10 runs inside Dragon Soul, which took me about 45 minutes, I managed to get the following loot and gold:
Epic Recipe x 18 = 100g / each = 1800g
Green Items x 13 = 75g / each = 975g
Epic (BOE) Items x 7 = 200g / each = 1400g
Cash (after selling the trash loot): 983g
TOTAL: 5158g after 45 min. of farming.
Tips:
This is a great spot to farm RAW GOLD, as each instance farming run will grant you 70-100g. If you’re fast, you can do 10 runs (the current instance lockout), in 30 min., and get at least 1000g, in the bank, without having to sell anything at AH. It’s quite a nice way to make some quick cash, if you’re in need, and you don’t want to wait for your auctions to be sold. However, this way of making gold may be nerfed soon.
Having a Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth, a Jeeves or any other type of summonable merchant, is a plus, as you’ll be able to get rid of the trash loot if your inventory gets filled up. Anyway, if you don’t have one, just destroy some of the trash loot.
If you’re not a mage, investing in a Band of the Kirin Tor is also a good idea. This ring allows you to teleport to Dalaran every 30 minutes, so you’ll be able to sell your loot and teleport right back to Caverns of Time. It’s sold by Harold Winston (40,34) in Dalaran, and costs 6,800g.
The recipes and epic items will also probably decrease in price, after a while, as more and more players farm them. For now, they all go for 100-200g or even more.
It is already nerfed 🙁
Been on trash and only got 4 gold with no additional items, nor trash, nor greens, nor nothing.
Yup, it appears that they cut the amount of coin dropped in half. I could only get 30ish gold per run now, in 25-man, and the item drop was lowered too. Bastion of Twilight though, still seems to be a good place to farm gold, cloth and green/blue/epics Cata lvl range.
