Do you know what really grinds my gears? When I have to scroll through 20 AH pages of Embersilk Cloth, only to find out that there isn’t any Silk Cloth. If back in the days of Burning Crusade and Vanilla WoW this type of cloth grew on tress, and the stack was 1-2g tops, nowadays it’s rather hard to find. There aren’t many good spots to farm Silk Cloth either.
The following spot, although might not be the best one, it’s still a good spot to farm Silk Cloth. And you can farm there with a level 40 character, easily.
Requirements:
- Minimum level 35.
Where to go:
If you play Alliance, take the boat to Theramore in Dustwallow Marsh, or fly to Theramore if you’re already in Kalimdor, and from there, go north-west to Blackhoof Village (42,12).
If you play Horde, fly to Brackenwall Village, or take the zeppelin to Orgrimmar and from there fly to Brackenwall Village, if you’re in Eastern Kingdoms, and from there go north-east to Blackhoof Village (42,12).
What to do:
Start grinding on the Grimtotem mobs and loot everything they drop. The most important part of the loot is the Silk Cloth they drop. The camp is not big, there aren’t too many mobs, but the respawn rate is quite high, sometimes they even repop instantly. Basically, you should start from the middle of the camp, at the northern part, clear out the mobs towards the exit point and by the time you finish with them, they have already respawned back where you started. All you need to do is to go back and repeat.
Loot:
After 1 hour of farming here, playing a level 80 Gnome Monk, I got:
Silk Cloth x 287 = 40g/stack = 574g
Mageweave Cloth x 34 = 30g/stack = 51g
Green Item x 11 = 25g/each = 275g
Blue Item x 1 = 75g
Schematic: Portable Bronze Mortar x 1 = 75g
Greater Healing Potion x 9 = 1g/each = 9g
Cash (after selling the trash loot): 12g
Total: 1071g in 1 hour of farming.
Tips:
Although the average price of a Silk Cloth stack is 30g, prices can go up to 60g per stack, or even 100g. Since this type of cloth is needed by tailors in pretty much high quantities, it usually sells pretty fast, and during a day, there’s quite a high fluctuation of the prices. So, you can auction them for more than 30g per stack and there’s a good chance to sell them.
By disenchanting the green items, you can obtain, Soul Dust, Vision Dust, Greater Mystic Essence and Greater Astral Essence. Sometimes these may be more valuable than the items, so if you have an Enchanter, you might want to give it a look.
Also, before disenchanting or auctioning any item, take a look at its appearance. Some of the cool looking items (especially weapons, robes, shoulders, helms and cloaks) can be sold for hundreds of gold. People buy them for Transmografications.
