In other WoW expansions, by disenchanting epic items, the results were always epic crystals or shards. Dragonflight is different because disenchanting epic items doesn’t always grant you Resonant Crystals. On the other hand, if you have 40 points trained into Draconic Disenchantment, you can get Resonant Crystals by disenchanting weapons.
Therefore, here’s a method of obtaining Resonant Crystals by disenchanting weapons, a method that doesn’t require too much investment and the losses are minimal.
Requirements:
- Dragon Isles Enchanting
- 40 Points in Draconic Disenchantment
- The Enchanted Writhebark Wand recipe (learned from a Dragonflight Enchanting trainer)
What to do:
1. Buy 300 x Chromatic Dust and 100 x Writhebark from the Auction House. That’s the equivalent of at least 50 x Enchanted Writhebark Wand.
2. Craft 50 x Enchanted Writhebark Wand.
3. Disenchant all the wands.
The results should be over 100 x Chromatic Dust, over 50 x Vibrant Shard, and at least 1-2 Resonant Crystal. So, you’ll basically get back over 1/3 of your dust, and Vibrant Shards that should amount for almost the whole cost of the Writhebark.
Here are the results I got after crafting and disenchanting 150 wands (3 sessions of 50):
For these 3 sessions, my Enchanting skill was almost capped, I’ve had 35 points trained in Rods and Wands, and also used blue Enchanting gear.
Of course, this is not exactly the best method of farming Resonant Crystals. However, if you’re not doing raids, dungeons, events, or open world rares (i.e. Forbidden Reach), it can still be viable, especially if the price of crystals is high.
Tips:
You can use the following macro to disenchant your wands.
/cast Disenchant
/use Enchanted Writhebark Wand
The macro does not automatically disenchant all wands; you’ll still have to click/press it. But it makes it easier than selecting each wand manually.
Having a high or capped Dragon Isles Enchanting skill, or at least extra Resourcefulness can help with crafting higher tier wands, as well as getting extra materials through disenchanting.
