If you don’t have professions and you don’t know what to farm, Essence of Air is one of the best resources that you should put on your list. The following spot is the best in the game for farming the resource solo, with a level 55+ character. However, if you’re on a populated PvP server, you may want to keep your eyes peeled, because there’s usually ganking going on at this spot in Silithus.
Requirements:
- Minimum level 55.
Where to go:
If you play Alliance, teleport to Ironforge, fly to Menethil Harbor (10,60) in Wetlands, take the ship to Theramore (68,50) in Dustwallow Marsh then fly to Cenarion Hold (54,34) in Silithus. From there, move to the northwestern corner of the map, at (28,26) and at (38,18), a bit South and East from the Crystal Vale.
If you play Horde, teleport to Thunder Bluff, and from there fly to Cenarion Hold (54,34) in Silithus. From there, move to the northwestern corner of the map, at (28,26) and at (38,18), a bit South and East from the Crystal Vale, a bit South from the Crystal Vale.
If you’re planning to go there with a level 85+ character that already has access to Uldum, you can use the direct portal to Uldum from Stormwind or Orgrimmar and from there, use your flying mount and fly directly to the northwestern corner of Silithus at (28,26).
What to do:
This is a pretty easy and basic farming spot. All you need to do is to kill the Dust Stormer elementals here, level 55 air elementals. They drop Essence of Air, a very valuable resource – your main objective. The respawn rate is not that great, so if you kill them fast and run out of mobs, you can take a few steps into the Crystal Vale and grind a bit on the Desert Rumblers there, level 55 earth elementals.
You will also get Breath of the Wind and Elemental Air, but these materials are not that valuable.
The drop rate for Essence of Air from these mobs has been reduced, beginning with 4.0.1. That’s why the price for these essences has doubled.
Loot:
After 1 hour spent at this spot in Silithus, playing a level 60 Death Knight, I ended up with the following valuable loot:
Essence of Air x 11 = 125g/each = 1375g
Breath of the Wind x 13 = 3g/each = 39g
Elemental Air x 21 = 5g/each = 105g
Green Item x 5 = 8g/each = 40g
Cash (after selling the trash loot): 45g
TOTAL: 1604g after one hour of farming.
Tips:
Essence of Air can reach prices of over 250g sometimes, therefore it’s best to check prices before going to farm them.
Essence of Air is sells for such high prices because it’s the main material for 3 awesome weapon enchantments that can be applied on Heirloom weapons: Enchant 2H Weapon – Agility, Enchant Weapon – Agility and Enchant Weapon – Icy Chill.
To obtain the agility formulas, the most important ones, you have to grind reputation up to Honored with the Timbermaw Hold in Winterspring. Not a hard rep. to get, and if you have Enchanting as a profession, I recommend you to grind Honored with the Timbermaw to get the recipes. An Agility or 2H Agility enchantment scrolls sells for 7-800g.
If you also have Mining, you can also collect the Thorium Ore (and sometimes Truesilver) that pops around the area. After an hour of grinding on the elementals I also got:
Thorium Ore x 72g = 40g/stack = 142g
You can sell the Essence of Air in stacks of 4, the number required for the enchantments.
